Penny is now at 34 days and is looking large and lovely. She has gained 7 pounds, and her girth is up to 36", abdomen at 30". She is thriving, eating well, and honestly, she is glowing. Here is a belly shot in the morning sun. Keep in mind she is still in week 5!
September 8, 2009
Penny is confirmed in whelp to CH Silverhill's Ice today by ultra sound exam. I moved the ultrasound up from Thursday because she is looking SO BIG! This will be a large litter. She is loaded with vesicles! The first thing I saw as soon as Dr. Barber put the transducer on her belly was a big round vesicle with an embryo in it. She counted 6. I expect 10 to 12 puppies. Exray to count will be on October 8 at 9am. Here she is yesterday on day 29.
September 4, 2009
Penny is on day 26 today. Photographs do not show it to advantage, but she is decidedly thick in the flank area, and there is quite a bit of mammary development. She is so hungry! I am counting down until the ultra sound next Thursday!
August 30th, 2009
Today Penny is on day 21 of 63. Nipples are enlarged, there is breast development, and a filling in in the flank area. She has not gained any weight. I weighed her at the vet twice this past week. She has gained one inch on both ends. Barrel is now 35, flank girth is 28.
She is very hungry, and very clingy. Ultra sound is Friday after next!

As most of you will already know, I am a longtime raw feeder. (15+ years)The place where I purchase meat for my dogs is very reasonable in price, although it has gone up the last several years.
Today I purchased:
30 lbs of beef knuckle bones
30 lbs of ground beef organ meat mix.
This contains heart, liver, kidney, and tripe
90 lbs of 20% fat ground beef
The tab? $160 bucks. This will feed my 3 Rottweilers beef twice per week, organ meat once per week, and a big bone twice a week for 5 weeks!

Tracy tells us that Ruger (Multi V rated, BIMBS, U-CH, Can/UCI Int'l CH. REDYRE WEAPON OF CHOICE, HIC(s) CGC) had his hip and elbow exrays done this past Monday. Ruger had an Excellent hip prelim, and normal elbows. His vet states no changes, so we are hopeful that the CHOICE litter gets another home run at the OFA, with a second Excellent/Normal rating.
We are expecting 5 normal hip and elbow ratings at a minimum based on recent screenings and preliminary results. Several more members of the CHOICE Litter are scheduled to finish their health testing over the next sfew months. We are delighted with results so far!
We have put the news page on an RSS feed today, so be sure to click the little orange logo near the top of the page so you can stay up to the minute on the progress of Penny's pregnancy and whelping!
August 25th, 2009
CH REDYRE CHOICE V ETERNAL MOON IS OFA EXCELLENT, and normal elbows! Hips: RO-70222E24M-VPI (Excellent)
Elbows: RO-EL727M24-VPI (Normal). T will entertain his first bitch over the Labor Day weekend. Visiting will be "Trinity", CH Eternal Moon Elara, CD RN TT. Trinity is not only a competitive bitch in the Specials ring, she is also the Jr Showmanship dog for 11 YO Hannah. We wish everyone the best for a successful breeding and a nice litter!
August 18th, 2009
Today, "T" is recorded an official CH of record on the AKC website. To say I am proud would be an understatement!
Penny is scheduled for Ultrasound confirmation of pregnancy at 10am on September 10th. Today is day 9. She weighs 03 lbs. Her barrel girth is 34, abdominal girth 27.
August 16th, 2009
I am happy to announce that I will have an assistant during the whelping of the Double litter. My good friend, and future owner of an Extra puppy Tonya has agreed to come help me. She lives nearby, and I hear she is pretty excited about helping these puppies get born.
Today Penny is abruptly out of season on day 16. Many feel this is a very early indication of a successful breeding. Keep your fingers crossed for lots of beautiful little Ice cubes!
August 15th, 2009
Penny was bred to CH Silverhill's Ice on August 12 and 14. As usual we had a nice time visiting at the Silverhill household. Ice is such a sweet sweet boy, and has some gorgeous puppies on the ground. Beautiful heads, pigment, eye shape, bone, topline, and temperament.
Due to unforeseen events beyond our control, plans to breed to Burning des Princes d'Aragone have been cancelled. Expect an announcement regarding a different sire for the Extra litter very soon.
August 11th, 2009
We are off to see the Ice Man today! Keep your fingers crossed for success and a nice sized litter.
Photos are in of new CH Redyre Choice v Eternal Moon. T is 23 months in these photos, pictured with owner/co-breeder Linda Draper, and judge Judith Goodin.
August 11th, 2009
Thanks to everyone who wrote, called, or thought of us and our Diddy (Odessa). She is feeling MUCH better, I would consider her back to normal altho she is still on meds.
In other news, Penny hit 5.5 yesterday. Breedings to Ice will be August 12 and 13. Penny will be confirmed in whelp by Ultra Sound on September 11th. Puppies due Sunday, October 11!
August 9th, 2009
Odessa needs your good thoughts, prayers, and vibes. She is very ill. I rushed her to the ER vet clinic last evening, afraid she was bloating. It is not bloat, but she feels very bad, is drooling, gassy, and her abdomen is still distended. She is not at all her cheerful bouncy self. If she is not better in the morning we will be off to our regular vet for more diagnostics.
As if that is not enough, my van blew a radiator hose on the way to the ER clinic last night, and over heated, so now I have that to deal with as well. When it rains it pours!
August 8th, 2009
Progesterone is climbing!! 1.9 yesterday. This indicates that the LH surge, which triggers ovulation, was likely overnight. We will test again on Monday, and I expect breeding on Wed and Thursday this week. If this stays on track, puppies will be expected on October 14/15. Stay tuned for more updates, and for actual breeding dates.
August 7th, 2009
HAPPY BIRTHDAY to the Choice litter, they are 2 years old today! Milton celebrated by going Reserve to the 4 pt major at the Greater Hickory Kennel Club show in Greensboro, NC. Penny went in for the second progesterone test today. Wednesday she was .04. Target is 5. Stay tuned for updates. As soon as I have dates, I will announce the expected whelping date for the DOUBLE litter. Milton and T go in for OFA films on Monday. We are using a different veterinarian this time, who does digital films. I hope I will be able to post copies of their films, and we expect FAST results with the digital format!

NEW AKC CHAMPION FROM BRED BY!!!!
Congratulations and MANY THANKS to Co-breeder/Owner/Handler Linda Draper and new AKC CH Redyre Choice V Eternal Moon ("T")!! TT finished in Greensboro NC today with his 3rd major (4 pts) under Breeder Judge Cathy Cooper. T will be 2 years old on Aug 7, and is out of CH Penny CD RN's first litter, by CH Carter's Noble Shaka Zulu. T finished with 3 majors (3/3/4), all points and wins from the Bred By Class. T will be out next year as a Special, so keep your eye out for this outstanding young dog in a ring near you!!
August 3rd, 2009
We are back from the Salem, Virginia 5 day show circuit. We had a fine time, and did a little winning. Wednesday Milton was WD for a single, with his brother Redyre Choice v Eternal Moon ("T") going reserve to him. Thursday the boys switched places, with T going WD for 2 pts, and RWD to Milton. Friday Milton was Reserve, Saturday T was Reserve, and Sunday T won again for another single. T needs 4 singles to finish, and Milton is up to 7 pts.
I am very proud to announce that on Sunday Velma, the Bulldog I have been showing for Pam Morrow, won a big fat 4 pt major! Congrats to Velma and Pam!
Penny came in season on August 1. I expect her to be ready to breed on about the 10th, so stay tuned. I can almost hear the sound of tiny paws pitter pattering already!
We are out for 5 more days coming up in Greensboro, and it is big majors in Rotties and Bulldogs all week, so stay tuned for updates, including Penny's breeding dates, and estimated whelp dates for the Double litter!
July 19th, 2009
Penny's shedding is increasing. She typically sheds out very radically just before she comes into season. I expect her to start coming in now in about 3 weeks. It could be there will be a steamy Labor Day tryst during the Labor Day circuit in Raleigh this year!
July 17th, 2009
We have been remiss in updating the news page. We lost Fenja on Easter Sunday, and since then I have just not had the heart to keep this page updated.
We miss you Beanie.
However, since the end of April, Milton has won 5 more points towards his AKC CH title. GO MILTY! ET, Linda Draper's boy, won both his majors over the Memorial Day weekend. CONGRATS T!!
We are eagerly awaiting Penny to come in season, which we expect in mid August. Milton will be out in full force starting the end of this month, and we expect to have our FIRST Bred-by CHAMPION when ET finishes in the next couple of weeks. It's been a long time coming, and this milestone will be a sweet moment indeed for us.
Mikey has a new home with new owner Mike Ellis. The Mike and Mikey team will be out at Greenville looking for some point action. We sure miss our Mikey around here, but we hear that he is joined at the hip with his new best friend.
As the sharpest edge of our grief gradually recedes, I will work on trying to keep more frequent updates to the news page. I expect we will have a lot to brag about at Redyre over the next few months!
February 24th, 2008
Over the weekend Ruger was shown at the IABCA 2009 Winter Sieger Show in Enumclaw Wa. In class of 4 Open males, Ruger went 1st and BOB in show #2 and 2nd in shows #1, 3, and 4. He received 4 V-1 ratings to earn his UCI International Champion title.
Here is the critique from his BOB win:

We are so very proud of this fine young dog, and his outstanding owner/trainer/handler Tracy Matty.
GO TEAM RUGER!!
Jan 31, 2008
We are having a real blast with the cart. A couple of weeks ago I dismantled it. I put on a new seat, repainted it, and put new longer shafts on it. I have also attached a basket to the back of it so I can do small errands around town with it. It is looking pretty spiffy, if I say so myself!
Milton is working very well with Penny. They have been pulling as a double hitch for several training sessions now.
Here is a video clip of Penny and Milton working together. Please excuse some of the fumbling with the camera. It is just a bit complicated sometimes managing 2 dogs, 4 lines, watching for distraction and traffic, plus using a camera. :D
January 12, 2008
Over the weekend, "Ruger" (CKC CH Redyre Weapon of Choice, HIC (sheep) won another point to his AKC CH title. Ruger was RWD on Saturday, and WD/BOW on Sunday at the Puyallup shows in WA state. Congrats to owner/handler Tracy Matty! This makes 3 AKC CH points for Ruger in limited showing.
We are enjoying our venture into driving very much. Penny is learning by leaps and bounds. We have been seen tooling about town the last several days. Penny is trotting long like a pro, and really enjoying the experience. The boys will also be in training to pull.
Here is Penny hitched to the K9 Sulky.

The second set of hip and elbow films for Mike and Milton are at the OFA as of Monday. The first set was somehow destroyed in transit to OFA, and arrived unreadable. These were mailed just last Thursday, and they already have them! I am hoping for results before the week is out!! I will update here as soon as results are known.
November 06, 2008
CONGRATULATIONS to Tracy Matty. Tracy has worked so hard with Ruger, exceeding every hope and expectation I had for her and her puppy. As of today, she is the sole owner of CKC CH Redyre Weapon of Choice, HIC. Best of luck to you two in all your future endeavors. I am sure we will hear of many many more brags from the two of you over the next few years.

I am thrilled and HONORED to be one of the 2007 recipients of this award.

RUGER (Redyre Weapon of Choice) earned his Herding Instinct Certificate today with style and loads of drive.
The following are the comments from the evaluator:
Nice dog. Strong minded. Went both directions well. Seems to be a more serious dog/worker. Nice/good interest in stock. Might be a harder dog for a beginner person.
Tracy is doing an outstanding job with this high drive young dog.
